May grain abound throughout the land, on the top of the hills may it sway
A friend, barely a few years older, would be standing for the nation's General Elections, I heard one day. I was jolted awake.
My first thought was He is ready to make that difference. He has decided to serve. What difference am I making? In my country? Society? Neighbourhood? What difference am I making today? How much longer will I be satisfied being served by others, only criticizing or commenting on them in pride or amusement from afar?
To serve is an honour, to rule is to serve. Service and rulership is not about power, but about having courage to shoulder responsibility and make decisions. But it is not difficult, if one has been appointed to the ruler's seat by God.
So as far me, I will serve where I am. I will do what I can for who I can, with what I have. This too, is a much needed difference for those I do touch. And as for those who do rule, God bless you. My prayer for you is like that of the Psalmist for the king in Psalm 72:
.: May you judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice.
.: May the mountains bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness
.: May you defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor
.: In your day, may the righteousness flourish, and prosperity abound till the moon is no more.
.: May you deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help
.: May you take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. May your rescue them from oppression and violence
.: May I ever pray for you and bless you
.: May grain abound throughout the land, on the top of the hills may it sway
.: May its fruits flourish like Lebanon, may it thrive like the grass of the field
.: May all nations be blessed through you and call you blessed
